“Timelessness” February 17 - March 30, 2024
MARIE COLE & BETSY JACARUSO

Betsy Jacaruso Gallery presents Timelessness, a duo exhibition featuring the works of Hudson Valley painters Marie Cole and Betsy Jacaruso. Known for their ethereal palettes, and dreamy compositions, both artists endeavor to capture feeling and mood in their atmospheric landscapes.

Marie Cole is a landscape painter based in Germantown, New York. Her works in oil, pastel and printmaking are inspired by the Hudson River Valley, Catskill Mountains, Cape Cod and the Delaware Bay. Watercolorist, Betsy Jacaruso, received her BFA with honors from the Pratt Institute of Art and Design in Brooklyn, NY in 1979. Her current work explores atmosphere and luminosity in landscape weather scenes.

“The timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness. And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream.”

― Khalil Gibran, The Prophet (1923)

The exhibit title is derived from a quote in Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet, in which he explores ideas such as, the eternal nature of love, and the state of being in a perpetual rhythm of existence. Cole in her oil paintings, and Jacaruso in her watercolors, capture the ever-changing dance of atmosphere and luminosity in the landscape as moments suspended in time. Like Gibran's prose, the landscapes become a visual testament to the enduring spirit of nature. The artists’ hand reflects on a fleeting state of being, while the practice of painting itself, for both Cole and Jacaruso, is a meditation of one’s own existence. The exhibition "Timelessness" offers a hopeful contemplation of ideas encompassing both the ephemeral and the interminable through depictions of nature.

The gallery will host an opening reception on Saturday, February 17th, 2024, from 5 pm - 7 pm. The celebration is free and open to the public, with light refreshments provided.
